JOHN MAHAMA SENT A STRONG MESSAGE TO AKUFO ADDO AFTER ORDERING FINANCE MINISTER TO GO TO IMF

John Mahama has requested President Akufo-Addo to dismiss Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as head of the Economic Management team as Ghana seeks a bailout from the IMF.

He also claims that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has lost his credibility and as a result, should not be a part of Ghana's delegation to the IMF to negotiate on the country's behalf.

When Ghana's administration announced that it would seek a bailout from the IMF, Mr Mahama stated, "Ghana should propose a home-grown answer."

In light of this, I am pleased that President Akufo-Addo has formally approached the IMF with the intention of entering into a program with the Fund."

Though late, this should be a significant start in alleviating the dreadful economic situation that has left the people of Ghana reeling under the weight of excruciating afflictions.

An in-depth home-grown program should be developed and offered to the IMF for support after the announcement of IMF participation." Mr Mahama emphasized the importance of putting together a team of professional and competent negotiators in order to secure the best possible deal with the Fund.

I don't think it's fair to have a Finance Minister on the negotiating team who has presided over a horrible economic collapse." He has lost the faith and confidence of the people who make up our economy," he says.

Instead, President Akufo-Addo must make the daring decision to replace his finance minister with someone who is more confident and capable of working tirelessly to turn around our nearly hopeless condition

The Vice President must also be removed of his responsibilities as Chair of the Economic Management Team in order for the President to reassemble the group in light of his clear failings."

Our current situation has taught us a valuable lesson: avoiding the dreadful outcomes that have brought us to this point can only be achieved by smart economic policy making
