The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager takes over from Coach Otto Addo who left the role after Ghana exited the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the end of the Group Stage.
A statement by the GFA read: "The GFA wishes to announce that it has appointed as Head Coach, Mr. Chris Hughton with immediate effect.
The GFA had earlier terminated the contract of Coach Otto Addo on Tuesday, 24 July 2018 following Ghana's exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup."
Since joining the backroom staff with the Welsh national team in 2012, the former Newcastle United and Norwich City player has steadily risen through the ranks to become a highly-respected figure in coaching circles. Most recently, he lead Brighton to a fifth place finish in the Premier League during his first season in charge before securing their Premier League status with a third-place finish last season.

Despite ending his tenure at Brighton in disappointing fashion, the club parted company with Hughton amicably. Meanwhile, speculation about possible destinations for the former England international included numerous reports linking him to vacancies in Spain and Italy as well as a possible return to Tyneside to take charge of Newcastle.
However, the GFA appears to have broken ranks with the rest of football by appointing a relatively unknown coach with little experience at the top level to take over as national team boss. But according to some pundits, the decision to appoint Hughton could prove to be a wise one as it presents him with the perfect opportunity to prove himself on the world stage and guide Ghana toward a bright future in international football.
Richard Ekai-Kessie, a former captain of the Ghanaian national team said: "Chris' appointment is great news and I think it's a very good choice by the GFA. He is a very experienced coach and he has done.
